Elizabeth (Betty) K. MacMillan Deering passed away at Balfour Residences on July 5, 2019 with her son David by her side.

We will be having a celebration of Betty's life on Thursday July 11, 2019. This will be held in the Moffat room at Balfour by the Riverfront Park, 1500 Little Raven Street, Denver, CO from 6:00 - 8:00PM.

Born in Arlington, MA on June 15, 1922, she had many adventures with her high school friend Alice "Boogie" Goodwin. This included both playing hooky from school and taking the train to Boston to see Frank Sinatra. A later escapade also included her sister Edie Hitchcock in a daring caper that involved taking the Model T Ford, driving to Swampscott, Mass, getting stopped by the police and most fortunately meeting our father, Dave W. MacMillan.

Dave was a decorated fighter pilot in WWII, and career Air Force pilot. Betty earned her pilot license while working in factories for the war effort. They married in 1944. As an Air Force wife, she moved all around the US and England while raising four children. She instilled in her children a love of creativity and her "can do spirit." Betty is survived by her children Sandra Fifield, Bruce MacMillan, Carla Strand and David MacMillan.

After 25 years in the Air Force, the family settled in Denver. A lifelong skier, Betty later moved to Vail. While working at Gorsuch, Ltd. Mom made the most her years in Vail, making lifelong friends. She enjoyed skiing, bike riding and golf with her friends and family. In 1977 she moved to Denver in to start a real estate career.

Ten years after being widowed she married Fred Deering in 1979. She thoroughly enjoyed her new life with Fred, traveling all over the world representing Security Life of Denver. They both had a passion for fly-fishing, golf, hunting and entertaining. Many organizations benefited from their volunteer and philanthropic activities. Betty worked from 1984 to 1991 on the Board of Trustees for the Denver Chamber Orchestra.

She loved becoming a Nana to Fred's grandchildren – John, Kristen and Scott Buchanan. Betty was also blessed with loving grandchildren of her own; Michael Richman, Lauren Strand Beckwith and Austin Strand, David F. MacMillan, Evan and Elizabeth MacMillan. And, two great-grand children Charlie and Quinn Beckwith.

We were very lucky to travel to their home in Casey Key, Florida to attend family reunions and treasure hunts were organized by all to delight the kids. Beautiful sunsets, fishing for dinner and beach time, those were the best memories.
