Next door lived his parents, William and Sarah Thrasher, as well as Amelia's youngest brother John Huckelby (16) who was listed as a servant. A few doors away her brother Robert Huckelby (20) was a farm laborer in the Pickens household.

Both Amelia and Lewis died in 1908 leaving four children to be raised by their Thrasher grandparents in 1910: Robert J (9), Sarah M (7), Luvena V (5) and Joe E (2).
