Wilfred A. Holzinger, Sr., 81, of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at his residence with his family by his side.
Wilfred was born on March 16, 1938, in Pierron, IL, to Albert and Frieda (nee Baumgartner) Holzinger. On April 27, 1963, he married Jean Susanne (Sue) Young in Coffeen, IL.
He graduated from St. Jacob High School in 1956, and from 1956-1960, he served in the Navy on the Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier and was stationed in Pensacola, FL.
Wilfred was a workaholic and started out in his younger years helping on the family farm and neighboring farms, and other various places such as Schneiders Grocery Store in Marine, Highland bowling alley when it was located on Broadway, and Demoulin Brothers in Greenville, IL. He was a member of the Highland Rotary Club and Greater Gateway Board of Realtors.
He and his wife met when they both worked for Demoulin Brothers. From there, he went on to start Holzinger Real Estate in 1968, and had offices in Greenville, Litchfield, Staunton, Troy, Trenton, and New Baden. Since 2000, he and his wife have been working at Caldwell Banker Brown in Highland, and he was known as "the dinosaur" to his worker cohorts. He loved spending time with his wonderful family and vacationing in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Holzinger, Highland, IL; daughter, Paula (Brad) Menz; son, Willie Holzinger; grandchildren, Jake Menz, Miranda Menz, Owen Holzinger; brother, Fremont (Betty) Holzinger, Highland, IL; sisters, Alberta Holzinger, Highland, IL, and Antoinette Vaughn, Florida; Brother-in-Law, Randall (Thelma) Young, Decatur, IL. Many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Frieda Holzinger.

Visitation: Monday, October 21, 2019, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 am, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

Clergy: Rev. Adam Zawadzki, Parochial Vicar, St. Paul Catholic Church.
