Thomas Kirk Wallace was the son of Joseph Walter Wallace and Martha Jane "Mattie" Ramsey, who were both born in Tennessee and soon after looked for a new home in Hill County, Texas. Thomas was the third of seven children born to this couple. Two older sisters, Lizzie A and Annie E, died as very young children. He had one younger brother John Walter, and three younger sisters, Mary Jane "Mollie" Wallace Ivy Walker, Magdalena "Mattie" Wallace Bailey and her twin Catherine "Carrie" Wallace Tresp.
