Memorial services for Peggy Jean Mabry, 89, will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel with Wayne Villar officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
Peggy was born September 10, 1930 in Foster, Oklahoma to Horace and Drannan (Ivy) Blackwood and passed away October 9, 2019 in Lovington, NM. Peggy lived in Oklahoma when she was young and she liked to walk to her Aunt Totsy and Uncle Shorty's to the store, which was about five miles. She always enjoyed walking even in her later years. She was an awesome seamstress and made all of her children's clothes. She attended the Assembly of God for many years. Peggy was an excellent cook and her cornbread was considered the "best cornbread" in the county. She raised her kids on Hand Hill east of Lovington and was a great wife, mother and grandmother. Sitting on her front porch was her relaxation and enjoyment. She was a worrier type person, always worrying about everyone else. She enjoyed her garden and watching her grandkids show animals at the fair and loved the rodeo and Old Fiddlers contest.
Preceding her in death were her two husbands: Herbert Hand and Otis Mabry; her parents: Horace and Drannan Blackwood and one granddaughter: Phoebe Ann Hand
Surviving her is her son: Jimmy and wife Melinda Hand of Artesia, NM; four daughters: Sue and husband Shermon Walters of Lovington, NM, Cindy and husband Art Marquez of Lovington, NM, Myra and husband Gary Long of Lovington, NM, and Amy and husband Sammy Rodriguez of Hobbs, NM; two brothers: Bobby and wife Jane Blackwood of Lovington, NM and Johnny and wife Terrie Blackwood of Lovington, NM; one Sister: Jimmy Smith of Lovington, NM, eleven grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
