Matthew was born Nov. 26, 1926, to William "Dude" and Mary Patterson. He attended Anderson High School and was a United States Army veteran. Matthew enjoyed playing cards, billiards, bowling and spending time with family and friends.
Matthew is survived by his sons, Robert Fuller, Matthew L. (Carolyn) Patterson, Derrick M. Patterson; daughters, Gloria Fuller, Diane Strother; sisters, Hattie Turner, Rosanna (Andre) Streaty, Queen Esther (Billy) Payne; brothers, Leonard Patterson, Richard Patterson, Leslie Patterson; 18 grandchildren, 60 great- grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; special friends, George Stith, Betty Lou Weatherly, Janeice Cox, Eldora Fuller; and a host of family and friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Patterson; son, Gary Gene Patterson; brother, Bennie Patterson Sr.; sisters, Ida Mae Parks, Fannie Fuller, Ollie Patterson, Arnetta Hawkins and Martha Early.
Service will be held noon Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, 1540 W. 16th St., with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon prior to service.
