Paul C. Monk, age 88, of Erwin passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 in the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late J.C. Monk, Sr. and Fannie Toney Monk.

Paul was a US Army Veteran. He retired from the Clinchfield Railroad after thirty-six years of service. Paul served as the Unicoi County Executive for twelve years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he had formerly served as Chairman of the Deacons.

He was very active in the community and was a member of several organizations. Paul was the Chairman of the Clinchfield Credit Union Board for twenty-six years. He had served on the General Election Commission, Economic Board, Upper East TN Human Development Agency, Senior Citizens Committee. Paul was Foreman of the Unicoi County Grand Jury, and a former Chairman of the Unicoi County School Board for numerous years. He had also served as President for the Tennessee School Board Association. Paul was a very active member of the Erwin Kiwanis Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Helen Joan Monk on October 21, 2017, two brothers: Edward Lee Monk and J.C. Monk, Jr.

Paul leaves behind to cherish his memories, three daughters: Diana Treadway and husband, Doug, Kennesaw, GA, Karen Duncan and husband, Clark, Knoxville and Paula Monk Foster, Erwin; five grandchildren: Jessica Sisson and husband, Joel, Buford, Ga, Brandon Treadway and wife, Amy, Irvine, CA, Larissa Treadway, Atlanta, GA, Kendal Hennigan and husband, Zac, Knoxville, Jarrod Foster, Erwin; two great grandchildren: Maverick Sisson and Shepherd Hennigan; several nieces and nephews, and his special pet, Cliff.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Central Baptist Church. Reverend Larry Wiley will officiate at the 3:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Larry and Martha Wiley. Deacons of Central Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
