Nancy Jane Louis, age 66, originally of Menominee, Mich., passed away on July 10, 2019, surrounded by her sisters, after a short, but courageous battle against lung cancer. She was the third born out of her family of seven, on Jan. 9, 1953, to the late Raymond Louis and Jane (Gibbs) Louis of Perkins, Mich., where there was never a dull moment throughout this beautiful soul’s life.

Nancy cared deeply for family and her ancestral history, making numerous trips across North America to visit family members, friends and remarkable places of her ancestors. She made a point to keep in contact with loved ones throughout her short but adventurous lifetime.

Her humor and independence never ceased throughout her life and even in her final days with us here on Earth, she sang theme songs and told captivating stories of her youth and “Zombie” days.
Having lived from coast to coast, finally settling in Largo, Fla., for the past 20+ years, Nancy was never afraid to try something new. She oftentimes convinced her family and friends to accompany her across the globe; from Ireland to South America and beyond, Nancy was known to travel to faraway places as she experienced life in ways most of us have only dreamed of.
It is especially important to mention that most of these places were experienced from her favorite place on the planet, under the sea. As an anonymous lover of the ocean once said, “We dive not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”
Nancy fully embodied this quote traveling with the “Naked Chicken Divers” all across the oceans to scuba dive among the electric eels, whale sharks and endangered coral reefs. Her most prized possessions were her personal scuba DVDs, her colorful scuba skins and her Green Bay Packers stock (in no particular order).
Nancy was never the attention-seeker and preferred to stay out of the spotlight, but her thoughtful, caring nature affected everybody who knew her.

Nancy is survived by countless family members and friends, especially her sisters: Mary (Gerry) Cain, Ginny Louis, Patty Cain and Cathy (Dale Ederer) Miller, all of Menominee, MI and Joan Louis of Kalamazoo, Mich.;
as well as her cousin (who was more like a sister), Sarah Welsh, of Columbus, Ohio.
She is further survived by her nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own: Gerianne Cain, Adam (Jessica) Cain, Randi (David) Ahrndt, Erin Cain, Cori (Ryan) Cirka, Bryan Cain and Jaime Miller.
Her great-nephews: Dawsen, Dennan, Gavin and Darin held an especially large part of her heart and soul.
Lastly, she is survived by her friends who were more like family: Mickey Sibbald, Deb Diesing, Jeana Robinson, David Grafe and Vicky Deleacaes.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond and Jane Louis; her brother, Paul Louis; and brothers-in-law: Jim Miller and Chuck Cain. In addition, she was preceded in death by her three kitty loves: April, Lucas and Eric (“Bratto”), whom we are certain met her on that rainbow bridge.

Per Nancy’s final wishes, she will be laid to rest among the coral reefs she loved. Eternal Reefs of Sarasota, Fla., is assisting the family with making her wish come true. There will be a dedication ceremony for close family and friends in late February where her remains will become a living legacy, protecting the reefs off the Florida coast.
There will also be a celebration of Nancy’s life, held for close family and friends, Nov. 9, 2019, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Murray’s Ballroom, 715 1st St., Menominee, MI.
A special thank you to the U.P. Health System Home Care and Hospice of Menominee, especially Janet, and Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home of Marinette for assisting the family.
