When did Mary West die? The first burial here at Pioneer Burying Ground is said to be that of Elisha Bemen in 1820 (seems to be a family burial site 1804-1820). Anyway, after Mary's death, the next child born to Amos West and his next wife Olive is Catherine Lydia West in February 1827. Nine months before this birth is May 1826. Mary West dies on June 26th. The only possible years of her death are 1820-1825. In the pamphlet, "History of St. Paul's, Newmarket" [1930s], the writer states that there are "graves of West's in 1821." So I am confidently going with June 26, 1821. That means she was born on March 24, 1789.

Additionally, this means in all likelihood she is not the mother of James Howard West, but is indeed the mother of the other children; John Haight West (1808-1900), Isham West (1811-1890), Sylvia West (1813-1891), Susannah Blish West (1816-1903), and Harriet Sophronia West (1817-1895). The death certificate of Susannah (West) Lount says her parents are Amos West and Ann Allan [sic]. A verified Amos West descendant matches with descendants of John, Isham, Susannah, and Harriet. Sylvia West names her second child (a daughter) Mary Ann Playter. The first child (a daughter) was named after her husband's mother. So I believe Mary West is Mary Ann Allen. I also believe she is the sister to a woman named Elizabeth "Betsey" Allen (1796-1822) who married Amos's brother, Joseph West (1793-1846).
