Maxine Marie Wells

Maxine Riddering Wells, age 93, went to be with her Lord on the evening of October 8, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Lynn M. Wells; her parents John and Mary Riddering; brother, Warren and sister, Mary Ann Ensing; brothers-in-law Warren Sadler, Alvan Wells, Milton Leidner, and Gene Chute; sisters-in-law Barbara Wells and Roberta Leidner.

She will be remembered by her children Lynn (Patricia) Wells, Jesse (Lynn) Wells, Cynthia (Dennis) Hoffman, and Jonathan Wells; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother, Ken (Sarah) Riddering; sisters Rosemary Chute, Bonnie (Dale) Kruithof, and Lynne (Jim) Broene; brother-in-law, Willard Ensing; and many nieces and nephews. Also special to Maxine was her honorary family Christoph and Evi deRoche of Switzerland, and Pierre Cruchaud, also of Switzerland.

Maxine helped husband Lynn run Wells Polled Herefords, raising registered beef cattle, and was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She had a warm heart and was active in the Grandville United Methodist Church, was a member of Riverbend Ladies’ Literary Club, Grandville Literary Club, Women’s Circle at the Church, Church Women United of Grand Rapids (serving as President at one point), and served as Secretary of the Southwest Michigan Polled Hereford Association.

In addition to these formal activities, Maxine devoted herself to raising their four children, keeping a well-run household, feeding farm hands, serving as secretary and bookkeeper, and helpmate for the farm. She accompanied husband Lynn on his business travels when she could, and the two of them traveled to nearly every state as well as a European tour, a family visit to the Netherlands, and a church trip to the Holy Land.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 20199 at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave., S.W., Grandville, MI 49418, with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service, and a light luncheon after the service. In keeping with Maxine’s wishes, she has been cremated and interment of her ashes will be at Riverbend Cemetery.

In honor of Maxine and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grandville United Methodist Church.
