Martha A. (McCarthy) Boyer MacKenzie, 80, of York and New ark, Del., died at 10:05 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2003 at ManorCare - South. She was the wife of Robert D. 'Mac' MacKenzie, with whom she celebrated a 38th wedding anniversary on November 6th, and the late Charles E. Boyer, I.
Mrs. MacKenzie was a homemaker and former short order cook at the Lincoln Highway Restaurant. She was also a former Cub Scout Den Mother in York. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Newark. She was a member of the church's Ladies Morning Circle and was a former president and treasurer. She also taught ceramic classes while living in Newark.
Born in Philadelphia on July 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Bly (Walton) McCarthy. She leaves four sons, Charles E. Boyer, II, Robert 'Bo' Boyer and Donald Boyer, all of York, and William Boyer of Milton, N.H.; a daughter, Karen Sue Patton of Palmetto, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, James R. McCarthy, Eugene W. McCarthy and LeRoy E. McCarthy, all of York; a sister, Helen J. Boileau of York; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita M. Wise, a sister, Mae J. Nichols and a brother, Robert L. McCarthy. There will be no viewing. A visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 25th at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. on Saturday at the chapel with her pastor, the Rev. John Padersen, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
