At the age of 104 years old, Margaret Bond, of Ocean Springs, formerly of Laurel (Glade Community), passed away on October 13, 2019 at the Light House in Ocean Springs.
Services will be held Thursday, October 17th, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, MS, with burial in Crestview Cemetery in Laurel. Rev. Cecele McDonald will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 with Service at 11:00.
Mrs. Bond was born in Tupelo, MS on July 7, 1915, and moved to Laurel around 1920. She attended Laurel Schools and graduated from Southern Teachers College (USM). She taught third grade for 31 years and remembered her students from her first year of teaching. She spoke often of her years teaching and thought third graders were the best age to teach.
She was an active member of the Laurel Iris Society and the AARP. She was a member of Mount Vernon Congregational Methodist Church,
a charter member of Glade United Methodist Church, and later a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and served on various committees throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jeff Davis Karnaghan and L. C. Bond: her parents, James A. and Eulalia Walker McSween: sisters, Edna McBride, Agnes Reeves Graham, and Genevieve McSween: brothers, Leroy and Frank McSween, and step-son and daughter-in-law Lavelle and Betty Bond.
Survivors include one daughter Jo Anne Karnaghan Bush, son-in-law John Bush, grandchildren Joy Parish (Greg) and Ken Bush (Debra), great grandchildren, Anna Parish and Faith Parish, and one great great grandchild Hadlee Wand.
Pallbearers will be: Mike McSween, Michael McSween, Hugh Schwan, Tullos Messemore, Greg Parish, and Jim Yaggi.
