Vera Mims Parker, 77, of Newton, MS died Wednesday, September 6, peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by family and friends at Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS. Mrs. Parker was born July 10, 1940 in Greenwood, MS to John Wess and Lois Mims. She was married to her loving husband Mitchell Parker for 33 years.

Mrs. Parker was a longtime resident of both Itta Bena and Greenwood, MS where she worked for over 30 years as an office manager for Brown Farms in Schlater, MS. She loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed gardening, reading and visiting flea markets throughout Mississippi. She never met a stranger and had an infectious smile that touched everyone she ever came in contact with.

She is survived by her husband Mitchell Parker, and son Larry Dale Pittman (Janice) Saltillo, MS. Vera was also a loving mother to Mitchell's children, Anthony Parker, Angie Everett and Beverly Brewer. Sister Vivian Brown, Brandon, MS and brother J. W. Mims, Winona, MS. Four grandchildren Larry Dale Pittman Jr. (Diana), Heather Faith Emplaincourt (Alex), Wess Stevens (Angie), John Stevens, six great grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Deborah Stevens, and brother Norman "Sonny Boy" Mims.

Graveside services will be at 1 o'clock PM on Friday, September 8, 2017, at Pine Ridge Baptist Church at Lawrence, MS. Bro. Glenn Hayman will officiate.

Pallbearers are Larry Pittman, Larry Pittman Jr., Dale Brown, Wess Stevens, John Stevens and Alex Emplaincourt.
