Gloria Jean Miller Lawrence, 82, a life-long resident of Pascagoula, passed away on October 6, 2019. Mrs. Lawrence was born in Preston, Mississippi, on her grandparent’s farm. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Miller and Eunice Jewel Young Miller. She is also preceded in death by her children’s father, John Matthew Lawrence Jr., her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, John and Lillian Lawrence, and brother-in-laws, Richard and Michael Lawrence and Joe D. Cole Jr.
She is survived by her children, Keely (Pete) Horn, John Lawrence of Pascagoula, Joey (Lydia) Lawrence of Hattiesburg, DeeAnn Fortier of St. Martin, David Lawrence of Pascagoula; sisters Dot (Bolie) Puckett of Porterville, MS and Dianell Miller of Pascagoula; 14 devoted grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Cherie Lawrence Cole of Charlotte, NC, and nieces and nephews whom she loved and enjoyed visiting.
Jean was very active in her children’s lives when they were in school and growing up at Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible study and sang in the choir. After the children were grown, Jean earned her Associates degree in Social Services. She worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding as a mechanical draftsman.
Jean loved to dance, read and travel. She loved adventure and had a great sense of humor. She loved being surrounded by her family and taught her children to be firm in their faith and strong in their family values.
Visitation will be Saturday October 12, 2019, 10:00am to 11:30am at First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula with funeral to follow at 11:30 at the church. Due to complications with Jackson County Memorial Park there will not be a graveside service. She will be entombed at a later date at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula, MS.
Pallbearers are her sons, John and Joey Lawrence, son-in-law Pete Horn, grandsons JM Lawrence, Alex Lawrence, Jonah Fortier and Andrew Lawrence, great grandsons Devin Carter and Timothy Frazier, granddaughters Whitney Lawrence Carter, Kayla Lawrence Morgan and Morgan Lawrence.
Memorial gifts can be made in her memory to First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula or Liberty Church of Gautier, MS.
