Velma Blondie Marcella Schmidt was born January 26, 1928, in Marietta, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Elma (Berndt) Bjornstad. She was baptized in Freeland Township, Lac qui Parle County and confirmed at Augusta Lutheran Church in Marietta. Blondie attended school in Marietta. She was united in marriage to Walter Schmidt at the St. Paul Lutheran Parsonage on March 16, 1947. Blondie was active with the St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Blondie passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. She was 86 years of age.
Surviving family include her children: Dianne, JoAnne, Neil, Elise, Paula and Yvette; 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vera May Wittman; three brothers: Arnold, Donald and Waldo; husband, Walter; and sons-in-law Vince Welling and Timothy Cronen; and grandchild baby Schrupp.
