Bruce Lewis, 70, passed away Wednesday, April 10 after a long stay at NHC Laurens in Laurens, SC. He lived most of his life in Batesburg-Leesville and was a 36 years resident at Leesville Gardens. He was a graduate of the Opportunity School in Columbia. Bruce was born January 7, 1949 to the late William Frank Lewis and Mary Dickert Lewis of Batesburg. Until the eighties he was employed by the maintenance department at J.B. Martin for 18 years when his health rendered him unable to work. One of his favorite pass times was browsing and shopping flea markets from Batesburg-Leesville to Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Jo (Wilson) Claar and Linda Craig; and one brother, Donald Lewis. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Lewis of Fredericksburg, VA; and two sisters, Sandra Miller and husband, Jerry of Marco Island, FL; and Gail (Brown) Thibodeaux and husband, Ben of Katy, TX. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Bruce was dearly loved by his family and cared for by his siblings who will truly miss him. ilton Shealy Funeral Home of Batesburg-Leesville is assisting the family with arrangements. The family has expressed sincere appreciation to many who befriended Bruce and helped him navigate through the years. Special thanks to the staff of CVS Pharmacy; Brent Shealy of Economy Furniture; "Billy" of the B-L Police Department and many special neighbors at Leesville Gardens.
