Cassandra “Sandy” Kennimer Smith passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte, NC. Sandy was born on November 27, 1957 and was the daughter of David Kennimer whom instilled in her a passion for watching professional football and Honarah Baze Kennimer who gave her the skills to be an exceptional cook.
Sandy grew up living in multiple towns and cities following her father’s work starting in Lubbock, TX where she was born followed by Asheville, NC, Roanoke Rapids, NC and Charlotte, NC. Sandy graduated from Halifax Academy in Roanoke Rapids along the way.
Sandy was a retired office manager for Commercial Intercom Systems, an electrical contracting firm in Charlotte, NC. She operated the business with her husband of 38 years, John B. Smith. John and Sandy were married on April 11, 1982. John and Sandy spent most of their marriage in the Steele Creek community of Charlotte where they were both members and Deacons of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church.
Sandy spent her free time exercising her sharp wit playing team trivia, watching and cheering on (sometimes surprisingly loudly) the Carolina Panthers, league bowling, watching her favorite live musical group and traveling.
Sandy is survived by her husband John B. Smith of Fort Mill, SC. Her sons John E. Smith of Harrisburg, NC, Loren Smith of Kannapolis, NC and David Smith of Falls Church, VA; her grand-daughter Makayla Smith of Kannapolis, NC, her sister Arlene Lowery and Arlene’s husband Everett Lowery both of The Villages, FL.
Sandy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend who was the embodiment of a “sweetheart”.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 12:00 PM until 12:50 PM with services beginning at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel.
Entombment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
