LITCHFIELD – Anne (Breeding) Davidson, 92, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at her home.
She was the wife of the late Robert H. Davidson, a colonel in the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Regiment, 4th Marine Division during World War II. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.
Anne was born on July 22, 1918, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of the late Edwin Charles and Flora (MacLean) Breeding. Anne and her husband, Bob, graduated in 1936 from Rye High School in Rye, N.Y.; she then graduated in 1940 from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. and her husband also in 1940 from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass.
Anne also took graduate courses at Columbia University and was a women’s field hockey star in high school and college.
Anne had been a member of the Litchfield Garden Club, Forum, PEO-Chapter D in West Hartford, Conn. and member and volunteer at the History Museum in Litchfield.
Anne is survived by a daughter, Anne S. “Missy” Davidson of Florham Park, N.J.; a brother, Edwin Charles Breeding Jr. of Old Lyme, Conn.; five nieces, Anne MacLean Breeding of Nantucket, Mass., Caroline B. Arena of Concord, Mass., Robin B. Stroud of Nantucket, Mass., Barbara D. Terray of Sarasota, Fla. and Elizabeth D. Sloane of Cambridge, Mass.; and a nephew, Richard S. Davidson of Anchorage, Alaska.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at The First Congregational Church of Litchfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 0869 or American Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108-3272.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home of Litchfield.
