James Ross Baker, son of Barney and Liza Baker, was born in Texas County, Missouri, April 12, 1870, and passed away at his home December 9, 1942, at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 27 days.
He was married to Louisa Jane Keeney, April 28, 1892. To this union seven children were born.
He spent his entire life in Texas County, Missouri, and was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He was an honest, upright citizen, and practiced the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, seven children, four brothers and two sisters. One brother, Gus, preceded him in death. Also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive.
The children are: Mrs. Lena Bolden, Van Buren, Mo.; Noble Baker, Houston, Mo.; Mrs. Julia Dunn, Pleasanton, Kansas; Mrs. Lawrence Haney, Pierce City, Mo., Earnest, Marion and Fount, all of Blackwell, Oklahoma. The brothers and sisters are: Ellen Hensley, Willow Springs, Mo.; Alta Ogles, Iowa; John Baker, Des Moines, Iowa; Walter Baker, Blackwell, Oklahoma; Virgil Baker, Houston, Mo.; Eli Baker, Houston, Mo.
He will be greatly missed by all his loved ones and the many friends.
Funeral services were held at Oak Hill, Friday; service conducted and sermon by Rev. James Culpepper. Burial in Oak Hill cemetery under direction of Elliott Funeral Home.
