Andrew Thompson (A.T.) Dunlap, of Little Rock, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the age of 95.
A.T. was born on June 30, 1924 in Wrightsville, Arkansas to Nancy Ellen Bunker and Andrew Thompson Dunlap.
As a young boy he worked on the family farm and learned about tending crops and hard work. He was a logger and a mechanic for anything with an engine. He was an entrepreneur and had a car lot at one time, founded Little Rock Tile and Marble and Larkin Builders.
A.T. served in the Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Cascade and was deployed to Japan. He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge. It was shortly after returning home from the Navy that he married the love of his life, Angelina Zulpo. They were married for an amazing 69 years. He would do anything for his “sweetheart” and cherished her very much.
If there was anything he loved aside from family, it was gardening and fishing. He spent many days tilling his plot and planting tomatoes and other wonderful vegetables. When he wasn’t in the garden you could find him at the river or on the lake fishing for brim or crappie. He loved the time spent with friends while fishing or chatting with others at the county farm garden.
A.T. was a strong patriarch of the family, a man who could always give you sound advice, help anyone who needed it, and would share stories or jokes with you with a twinkle in his eye. He was a member of the Methodist Church and always put his family first and the Christian values he held so deeply were things he made sure to pass on.
A.T. was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Sterling, Floyd, John and Clint.
He is survived by his wife, Angelina; son, Brent Dunlap (Nancy); granddaughter, Holly Dunlap; step-granddaughter, Lisa Willits; great-grandson, Landon Queen; and three step-great-grandsons, Hunter (Heidi), Hayden and Zack Willits. He leaves behind many other friends, nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family.
No finer man shall come after him and all those he left will forever be grateful for the time with him and the knowledge and blessings he left with us. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Premiere Nursing Home and the Arkansas State Veterans Home for their compassionate care.
