Composer. Born in Omagh, Ireland, he is regarded as one of the best popular songwriters of the 20th Century. In the course of his career, he wrote more than 2,000 songs overall and their sales in sheet music and records reached into the millions. His memorable songs included "Harbor Lights", ''Red Sails in the Sunset'', "South of the Border", "The Teddy Bear's Picnic", "The Isle of Capri" and ''April in Portugal''. He died in Cheltenham, England and was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1997.
