James V Gustafson, age 86, of Park Falls, died on October 28, 2018 at his home. He was born on December 24, 1931 in Park Falls, the son of Verner “Scully” and Mary (Raiche) Gustafson. His early life and schooling were in Park Falls. After his schooling he served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On December 4, 1954 he married Pauline Balzer in Long Beach, California. After being discharged from the Navy James and Pauline returned to Park Falls where he owned and operated Scully's Inc. until his retirement in 1993. Scully's was known for the famous weekly big fish contest. The contest drew people from all over to enter or just to see the fish in the freezer outside the store. Jim was a member of the Park Falls American Legion Post, a former member of the Lions Club, the Jacees, the Chamber of Commerce, and was very involved in the community. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially the Swamp Creek Hunting Party, AKA “Caraway Haven”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline in 2015, his son Jim Gustafson, his infant granddaughter Elizabeth, and his sister Susan Lindberg.
