CONCORD - Hillard Elaine "Hully" Bunn Ballard, 95, passed away at Tucker Hospice House, Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, at Forest Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Suzanne Dornsmith officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor, Saturday, from 2 to 3 p.m. Hully was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Cabarrus County, to Foster C. Bunn Sr. and Myrtle Suther Bunn. She was a longtime active member of Forest Hill UMC where she participated and served her church in many capacities. She enjoyed her career as an English teacher at Concord High School, she loved her students and coworkers. She was an avid bridge player, a travel enthusiast, an ardent reader, and skilled quilter. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Spencer "Jimmy" Ballard Jr. Mrs. Ballard is survived by her daughter, Elaine Holt and husband, Rick of Atlantic Beach; sons, James Spencer Ballard III and wife, Barbara of Elizabeth City, and Larry Ballard and wife, Florence of Lexington; sister, Millicent Ann Bunn of the home; brother, James Bunn and wife, Gail of Norwood; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Forest Hill UMC Columbarium Fund, 265 Union Street N., Concord NC 28025.
