NUTTER FORT — James Lee “Jim” Higginbotham, Jr., 64, of Good Hope passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 in the United Hospital Center.
He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on March 23, 1955, a son of the late James Lee and Glenna M. Grant Higginbotham.
He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 44 years, Carla Everitt Higginbotham, whom he married on October 4, 1975; two daughters, Kristin Scharnhorst and her husband, Scott and Kimberly Higginbotham and her partner, Peter Rohn; four grandchildren, Bebhinn, Godric, George and Finnbheara Scharnhorst; three brothers, Danny Higginbotham and his wife, Paula, Ronnie Higginbotham and his wife, Nancy and George Higginbotham and his wife, Kate; several nieces and nephews; his step-mother, Susan Higginbotham; his in-laws, Diane, Jane, Tim, Elaine and Janet as well as their families; his mother-in-law, Luella Everitt and many beloved friends.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Larry Lee Higginbotham and his father-in-law, George Everitt.
A giant among men, Jim met every challenge with strength, humor and positivity - he found the best part of any situation. He always thought of others before himself, often commenting on how lucky he was. He was a man who not only understood the word love, but he lived as an example to all of what unconditional love was. He consistently worked on bettering himself and growing as a man and a Christian. He was full of love and forgiveness for everyone. Jim was a 1973 graduate of Washington Irving High School and a Lineman/Dispatcher for Monongahela Power Company. He loved fishing, hunting, competitive shooting and watching reality TV, documentaries and war movies. Mostly, he loved spending time with friends and family, especially his quality time with his grandchildren. Jim was truly an inspiration to all who met him. Jim was extremely proud of his children and always encouraged them.
Special thanks to all the squad members who provided him transportation, as well as the doctors, nursing personnel and his “dialysis family”, all of whom provided him with excellent care.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2019, with Lou Ortenzio and Pastor Bob Scharnhorst presiding.
Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.
