Karen M. Harper, age 79, a longtime resident of South Lyon, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019. She was born October 8, 1939 in Southfield, Michigan; daughter of Clarence J. and Dorothea C. (nee Senkbeil) Anderson. She was united in marriage to Jimmie Dale Harper on September 24, 1960; devoted to each other for over 40 years until his death on January 27, 2001.

Karen worked as a crossing guard with the City of South Lyon Police Department for 12 years before she began a career as a noon aid with Bartlett Elementary in South Lyon. She was very creative. Karen loved to crochet, knit, and cross stitch. She was an avid reader; her favorite books to read were about the Amish lifestyle. She had a great sense of humor, was strong willed and a fighter. Karen was a loving, caring and kind mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Johnson; her grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Kayla Harper, and Matthew Harper; and her brother Russell (Emily) Anderson. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son Kenneth Harper, her son Timothy Harper, and her siblings Marjorie Rystzak, Donald Anderson, Kenneth Anderson, Gordon Anderson, and Lauren Anderson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 4-8pm. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 1pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Pastor Don Magee with Lakes Bible Church in Walled Lake will officiate the service. Karen will be laid to rest at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
