Mr. Courtenay, 53, of 1710 Bradley Drive, Columbia real estate dealer, died Monday in Columbia Hospital.
He was born in Columbia, son of the late Rev. Carlile Courtenay and Laura Davant Courtenay. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Bonnie Shealy Courtenay and a sister, Mrs. LeGrand Jones.
Police said he died of a self-inflicted bullet wound.
