Richard K. Creveling died Saturday, Aug. 17, at University Retirement Community with his wife by his side.
Dick was born to Louis and Mary Creveling of Painesville, Ohio. He graduated from Harvey High School and earned an Eagle Scout award during those years. He attended Ohio State University, graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry, and became a life-long Buckeye fan.
After fulfilling his military obligation in the US Air Force and working for North American Aviation, he searched for a career opportunity. He found an opening in the University of California system at the Citrus Experiment Station research facility in Riverside in 1956.
In the next year, they moved to Davis, where he attended graduate school at UC Davis. Dick joined the food science and technology department until he retired in 1989.
