Earl Bond Sterling, 93, of Melbourne, Fla., passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, peacefully at Avante Nursing Home in Melbourne. Mr. Sterling moved to Melbourne more than 20 years ago. He is formerly of Freeport. Mr. Sterling was born April 15, 1914, in Benrise, Md., the son of the late Isaac and Essie (Bond) Sterling. He was the widower of Edith M. (Griffith) Sterling, who passed away in 1983. Earl had served in the Marines during World War II. He was a past member of First Christian Church in Tarentum. Earl worked at Country Bell Dairy in Natrona Heights for 33 years. He had also worked at Saxony Golf Course in Saxonburg before moving to Florida. Earl enjoyed golfing, hunting and playing cards. He was an avid bowler who had belonged to the Mora League and a number of couple's leagues over the years. He is survived by his three sons, Earl W. "Pete" (Cathy) Sterling, of Melbourne, Earl D. (Nancyann) Sterling, of Sarver, and James B. (Coleen) Sterling, of Palm Bay, Fla. Earl is also survived by seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his companion of the last 20 years, Grace Beck; his son, Donald Paul Sterling; three brothers, Charles, Henry and Carl Sterling; and three sisters, Ester Carlin, Neddie Daum and Grace Gravatt. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Janes United Methodist Church, Creighton, with the Rev. Dawn Lynn Check officiating. Funeral arrangements by REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC.
