Agnes Lucille Chastain, age 87, Carthage, Missouri, went to be with her Lord early Monday morning, October 7, 2019 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage. Agnes was born March 1, 1932 in Round Grove, Missouri, and was a resident of St. Luke’s Nursing Center for the past 3 years. Growing up in Miller, Missouri, she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1950. Agnes lived in Carthage from 1953 to 1961, and then resided in Springfield, Missouri until January 2016. For 25 plus years she worked for Dayco Rubber Plant and after that, St. John’s Hospital for 11 years until retirement.

Agnes was an active member of Parkview Christian Church, Springfield. Some of her favorite things to do were daily Bible reading, sewing, gardening, singing in the church choir, visiting church shut-ins and hospital patients, playing softball in the city leagues (went to state twice), and dabbling in little carpentry projects now and then.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Janney (husband David), Carthage; one nephew, Mark Janney (wife Rachel), Kansas City, Missouri; a great nephew, Travis Janney (wife Angela), Kansas City, Missouri; and a great niece, Alexa Janney, Los Angeles, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Pearl (Layne) Chastain; and a sister, Bonnie Myers.

Visitation will be held 9:30 – 10:30 am, Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Graveside funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 am in Miller Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Miller, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Parkview Christian Church, Springfield, or First Christian Church, Carthage, in care of Knell Mortuary.
