Herman was born on April 24, 1926, in Bigfork MN where he attended school. In 1944 he joined the U.S. Army and served 26 years which included three wars, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Following his retirement from the military in 1969, he owned and operated a Volkswagen dealership in Waianae, Hawaii, for 20 years. He then returned to Bigfork and finally Talmoon. He was a life member of the Deer River VFW Post 2720 and American Legion Post 122.
He is survived by a close friend, Mildred "Sis" Johnson, Talmoon; two sons Rocky and Tony, both of Marysville, Washington; three daughters, Diana Chandler, Kissimmee Florida, Becky Huber, Melrose Wisconsin, and Bobbe Sitz, Everett, Washington; six brothers, Dick and Russell, Chula Vista California, Fred, Schaumburg Illinois, Mike, McHenry, Illinois, Bruce, Andover, and Jon, St Paul; six sisters, Vera Holland, Chula Vista California, June Southworth, Imperian Beach, California, Iris Patrick, Ericson, Nebraska, Amber Kaczor and Hope Perkins both of Bigfork and Penny Petersen of Talmoon; eight grand children and one great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents Walt and Dorothy Vail Sitz, two sisters, Fern Wheeler and Nancy Domeier and brother Rodney.
