Suggested edit: Patricia Marie Corbitt passed away at home in Butte on Thursday, March 28, 2019 surrounded by family. She was born on October 10, 1943 in Butte, Montana to Charles and Mary (Rosich) Woods. She grew up on the east side of Butte in the neighborhood of McQueen, attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and graduated from Girls Central High School in 1961.
After high school, Patsy worked as an office receptionist for a short time until 1962, when she met Joseph "Joe" Corbitt and quickly swept him off his feet. She often joked that "One Saturday night while cruising with my girlfriends, I picked him up on the corner of Park & Main & gave him a ride in my car. My crazy driving scared him to death, and I wouldn't let him out!"
After dating for a few months, Joe proposed. They planned their wedding in less than 7 days, got married at Sacred Heart Church on February 9, 1963 and moved to Seattle.
After a short time, they moved back to Butte. They settled into their home on Massachusetts Avenue, where they continued their married lives together for over 50 years.
Patsy was a dedicated wife, homemaker, and a great mom. She & Joe were blessed with a house full of boys. Her days as a young mom were spent running the household, chasing & caring for her boys, cooking & cleaning. The Eagles Club honored her as "Mother of the Year" in 1980.
During the summer months, Patsy & her boys could be found camping & having fun at Hauser Lake. Her favorite part of camping was tending to & sitting around the campfire after dark, and visiting with her friends & family.
Patsy was a great supporter of all of her boys' hobbies & sports adventures. Once the boys were a little older, Patsy began working at Lockett's Bakery & Restaurant. She started out working the cash register at the donut counter, then moved on to waitressing, and eventually became the cook. In addition to a great breakfast or lunch, she was well known for her sassy sense of humor and her good-natured "harassment" of customers. There were many mornings when all of the tables were full, and it was standing room only at the restaurant. Patsy's career at Lockett's lasted 18 years.
After retiring from Lockett's, Patsy spent many years helping out at Wonderland Ceramics. Ceramics was a hobby that she loved, & over the years, she made many beautiful things. She also liked to quilt and sew.
Patsy loved to shop & collected many things including Barbie Dolls, angels, figurines, ornaments & decorations. We often joked that she alone kept the Hallmark stores in business. Patsy truly loved the holidays. She kept a tree up year round & decorated her home for every occasion. We all have great memories of the holidays with Patsy. She loved buying special gifts for her family & friends. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary. Birthdays were celebrated with her famous carrot cake and her amazing Povitica was made for all special occasions. Patsy loved planning parties & weddings.
Just a few years ago, Patsy relocated to a small apartment at Big Sky Senior Living Center, where she participated in many activities. She met so many people there, and was able to add even more names to her long list of friends. Thank you to the staff at Big Sky Senior Living for caring for & making Patsy's time there comfortable.
Patsy is survived by her children: Kevin & Diana Corbitt (Butte MT), Shawn and Mary Corbitt (Rock Springs, WY), Scott Corbitt (Missoula, MT), Gregg & Heather Corbitt (Apache Junction, AZ), Corey Corbitt (Helena, MT), Curt & Corine Corbitt (Belle Plaines, MN); grandchildren, Kari & Jeremy, Paul & Sarah, Andrew, Madison, Joey, Justin, Jessica, Sean, Hunter, Sara, Aubrey, Mitchell & Ruby, Daniel, Travis, Keaton, Kolter, Cole, & Cody; and great-grandchildren, Karli, Kynli, Mason, Charllee, Kynzlee, & Corbitt. She is also survived by her siblings: Joe & Sheila Woods (Idaho Falls, ID), and Cheryl & Dave Ungerman (Helena, MT), along with many extended family, stepbrothers & sisters, brothers & sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph Corbitt; parents, Charles Woods & Mary Woods; stepmothers, Frankie Pierce Woods & Alice Austin Woods; in-laws, Dan & June Corbitt; brother, Charles "Chuckie" Woods; & sister-in-law, Mary Lewis.
