Donald Joseph Banner, 72, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at his residence. He was born July 2, 1935, in Youngstown, Pa., son of the late Charles M. and Bertha O. (Hoyle) Banner. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Kingston Veterans and Sportsman's Club, Slovak Literary and Social Club, Cooperstown Veterans and Sportsman's Association, American Legion Post 982 and the Twin Maples Hunt Club. He was retired from Teledyne Vasco Company and served in the U.S. National Guard with the heavy weapons infantry. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Eugene Kanon; four brothers, Charles, Ralph, Dean and Dale Banner; a sister, Sarah Starry; and a son-in-law, Frank D. Spillar. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Daisey (Little) Banner, of Latrobe; a daughter, Darlene Banner Spillar, of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Lois Krivonik, of Latrobe, and Catherine Piper, of Youngstown, Pa.; grandsons, Dustin McKinley and Shamieka Banner, of Temecula, Calif., Joshua Thomas Banner, of San Diego, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren, Christopher and Melissa Spillar, of Latrobe; five great-grandchildren, McKenzie Dawn and McKaylee Christine Banner, of Temecula, Calif., Deyvin, Christopher and Brendyn Spillar, of Latrobe; and nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. David von Schlichten officiating. Interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery.
