OBITUARY.
HODGES.—Died, of consumption, at the family residence, in Independence. Kas.. on the 29th day of August, 1884. Jesse T. Hodges.
His funeral took place the following day, services being held at the residence, conducted by Rev. Coffey, of the Baptist Church, after which his remains were interred in Mount Hope Cemetery.
His sufferings were protracted and severe, having been afflicted for eighteen months, during which time his mother has kept an all-night watch over him more than two hundred nights. He was not a member of any church, but some weeks before his death he professed conversion; after which he showed complete resignation to the Savior's will, quietly bore his sufferings, and finally died in peace.
This family have had peculiarly severe trials to pass through, and merited the deep sympathy which was shown them by their neighbors and friends.
Just nine days before the death of "Tom", the father, William G. Hodges, died from a relapse of flux, his sickness lasting about a month. Death's inroads will be severely felt in that home.
Transcribed by Bill Andres (47602571).Son of William Giles Hodges and Mary Ann Rushton.
