Herbert Russell Cox, Jr., 82, of Asheboro, died Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with Rev. Mark Beane officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
A native of Randolph Co., NC, Mr. Cox was born June 21, 1937, the son of the late Herbert Cox, Sr., and Edna Louise York Cox.
He had worked for over 37 years for the City of Asheboro in the Engineering Department and Water and Sewer Department. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Russell was a beloved husband, father and "Pop-Pop."
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Lou Jones and Carol Woodell.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Cox of the home; daughters, Melessa Cox Thomas and husband Leonard of Asheboro, Jennifer Cox Garner of High Point; sister, Wilhelma Poole and husband Bobby of Asheboro; brothers, Calvin Cox and wife Darlene of Seagrove, Roy Cox of Portsmouth, VA; grandchildren, Joshua Garner, Lauren Garner and Anna Garner.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
