He was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Anderson, the son of Matthew and Rosemary (Wood) Conley. Matthew was a design engineer for auto manufacturing at General Motors for 30 years before retiring in 1991.
He served in the United States Army and was a member of Eagles, American Legion, Moose Lodge and Shrine Club.
Matthew is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Madelyn (Hattery) Conley, whom he married Nov. 21, 1954, in Anderson; son, Andy (Charla) Conley of Chesterfield; daughter, Candy Conley of Anderson; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Vickie O'Connor.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Bronnenberg Cemetery with Pastor Ned Clark officiating.
