Clifford Ray Davis, 89, of El Paso, Texas, died on September 26, 2019, after a stroke and a battle with Alzheimer’s. Visitation for Clifford will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with interment to follow in Evergreen East Cemetery. Davis was born in Purcell, Oklahoma, and was a longtime resident of El Paso, Texas, where he worked as a switchman for the phone company. Survivors include his children, all of El Paso, Texas, Walter Davis, Edward Davis (Susan), Bonnie Stone (Mark), Lorraine Croll (Gary), Sandra Vera (John), and Vivian Roberts (Troy), 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and brothers Jimmy Davis (Alice) of Wellston, Oklahoma, and Billy Davis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Cliff was born to Les and Nettie Davis on January 10, 1930. He attended Capitol Hill Senior High School before joining the U. S. Army at age 17, where he served in the signal corps for three years. Like many Fort Bliss soldiers, he met a local beauty and made his home here. He married Gertrude Trevino on September 2, 1950, and together they raised their six children. Clifford loved bowling and played on many leagues from early adulthood until his eighties. He also enjoyed golf and billiards for much of his life. Poker, cribbage, and dominoes were among his favorite indoor games to play with his family and friends. After his retirement, he enjoyed the hobby of collecting and categorizing music in record, 8-track, and cassette forms. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gertrude of 62 years, his brother Kilroy and sister Norma Jean, grandson David Bradshaw, and most of his friends. Funeral services entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina (915) 598-3332, a “Dignity” memorial provider.
