Eric Vincent Scott, Sr. was born June 22, 1950 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born into the union of the Late Mr. Isiah and Mrs. Mildred L. “Bess” Scott.
Mr. Scott accepted Christ at a very early age at Day Spring Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C. E. Weaver. He later became a member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church and served on District 10 under the leadership of Rev. Landon Williams, Sr. He attended the local public schools of Duval County graduating from New Stanton Senior High School Class of 1969. He served in the United States Navy in 1970, assigned to the USS FD Roosevelt receiving the National Defense Services Medal.
He was employed as a linemen by the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) Water Works Department and retired with 24 years of dedicated service. Also doing that time he was elected as President of the Local 630 City of Jacksonville serving two terms and 20 years as union steward. He was also employed with the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1408 until his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents Isiah and Mildred L. “Bess” Scott; Daughter, Erica Ashley Scott; Sisters; Deloris L. Smith, Betty J. Prince, Brothers; James F. Smith, and Stephen (Big Daddy) Scott.
On September 22, 2019 Mr. Scott went home to be with the Lord.
His memory will be cherished by his family: His children; Eric Vincent Scott, Jr. (Shajunia) and Isaiah Gartrell Scott; siblings; Arnette Ward (John), Tallahassee, FL, Rev. Ronnice Freeman (Esau), Lillian L. Smith, Jacquline E. Scott, Patricia A. Bly (Clyde), Patricia Stokes, Gerald L. Smith and Martha, Miami FL, Richard I. Scott, Zachary C. Scott (Brenda), David, Stanley L. Scott; grandchildren, Eric Scott III, Erica Scott, Derick Scott, Aisha Scott, Amaiyah Scott, Jacquez Scott, Cameron Scott, JaVaughn Jacobs, Mar'nae Harris, and Arthur Walker; great grandchildren, Devon Griffin, Aryss Harris and Cerenity Scott. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends, including Shirley Spivey, Tyrone Merchant, Kenneth McTear, Rufus “C-Dog” Standley and goddaughter, Felicia Spivey.
