After graduation she got a job in Atlanta, where she met a handsome Air Force paratrooper, James Harmon. They married and made their home in Atlanta, Georgia. After retirement from Colonial Foods, Frances volunteered at the senior center where she taught other seniors how to make pottery and jewelry and other crafts. James died suddenly about 20 years ago and Frances missed him and grieved. She often commented that it was just so sudden, and if he had been sick, she could have been more prepared to lose him. Despite the hardship of being alone, Frances maintained their shared home, including a large garden, for as long as she could.
Frances also cultivated and maintained lifetime friendships. Judy Gable, the daughter of her lifetime friend, provided personal services that helped her stay in her home until the week of her death. Her nephews helped out with odd jobs when they visited. She loved her many nieces and nephews and seemed to relish visits from all of them. They could usually expect to receive some kind of gift or toy that she had selected or made just for them.
Her 3 brothers, Alfred, David and Robert Locke predeceased her and she lost two of her younger sisters less than one year ago, Helen Sammons, of Milledgeville, GA on 10/22/21 and Emma Jean Stuckey, of Warner Robins, Georgia, just a day later on October 23, 2021. She is survived by her stepson, Gary Harmon, of Alpharetta, Georgia, two younger sisters, Dorothy Beasley (John) of Jesup, Georgia and Linda Warnock of E. Dublin, Georgia. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Edith Locke, of O'Brien, FLorida. There are too many nieces and nephews to name but we are all left with fond memories of time spent in the presence of this amazing woman who lived so well for so long.
Frances attended Mount Gilead United Methodist Church.
