PEKIN ~ Eddie W. Harrison, 85, of Pekin, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Pekin Manor. Born September 2, 1934 in Searcy, Arkansas to Rev. Charles L. and Melda A. (Crozier) Harrison, he married Beverly June South on November 26, 1952 in Springfield. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother of Pekin; two sons, John David Harrison and James (Mary) Harrison, both of Pekin; one daughter, Janni L. Harrison of Pekin; four grandchildren, Lawrence Harrison, Heather Harrison, Faith Harrison, all of Pekin and Benjamin (Hailee) Tull of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one sister, Ruth Parks of Springfield and one nephew, Ross (Karen) Parks of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Larry Harrison on February 23, 2003 in Pekin and one brother, Larry Joe Harrison.
He was a United States Army veteran during the Korean War.
Ed was a graduate of Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also had attended Illinois State University.
He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 43 years as an engineer.
Ed’s life revolved around church and family. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he was a member of the Young Adult Methodist Sunday school class and past president of the United Methodist Men at the church. For many years he worked with the church’s Boy Scout Troop 89 and also as a den leader with Pack 197 of the Weblos. He enjoyed bowling and golfing with his Caterpillar friends and playing tennis with his wife.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. Pastor Eric N. Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial of cremated remains in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Searcy, Arkansas at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
