Mr. Thomas Orlan Winstead
January 28, 1918 - December 15, 2006
Thomas Orlan Winstead, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 15, 2006 at his home, The Waterford. Visitation is from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 18, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Orlan was born in Neshoba County, MS. He was married to Lucile Montgomery Winstead for 64 years.
He worked with the Regional Office of Veterans Administration. At his retirement, he was chief of the Adjudication Division. He was in the Army serving in World War II.
He loved his church and was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson. Church work included Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director, Church Training Director, Brotherhood President, and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was a trustee on the Sunday School Board in Nashville, TN and trustee of the Baptist Children's Village. He was involved in Bible Drills over 50 years. He was actively involved in community activities.
Mr. Winstead is survived by his wife, Lucile Montgomery Winstead; daughter, Patricia Winstead Ainsworth; 3 granddaughters, Cheryl McGuffee, Stacy Strickland, and Kimberly Cox; grandson, Gary Ainsworth; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bessie Rush and Opal Winstead. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Carl, Earl, and Arthur Winstead; 4 sisters, Essie Winstead, Era Crenshaw, Lora Williams, and Donnie C. Nelson.
Orlan was a very caring family man and was loved by all of his family.
