Betty Jo Dean Burgess, 84 of McConnell, peacefully passed away on Tuesday October 1, 2019 at Logan Regional Medical Center after suffering two massive strokes.
She was born November 9, 1934 at Dehue, WV to the late Aaron Rice and Kizzie Adkins Dean. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her grandparnets, Rayburn and Margaret Elizabeth Wiley McCoy Adkins, Rev. Joseph Booten, and Ruth Matney Dean.
She was a dedicated school teach for 40 years and was especially fond of her years at Man Junior High and her cheerleaders. Betty was the owner of Burgess Boutique in Logan, WV from 1977 – 1987. She graduated from Logan High School in 1952 and looked forward to reunions with her former classmates. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston) and her master’s degree from Marshall University. She was a member of Nighbert Memorial Methodist Church and enjoyed her time teaching the Ladies Circle and serving on the Bereavement Committee.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard “Dick” Burgess; two daughters, Regina (Zack) Al-Saigh of Grand Island, NY and Rhonda Burgess of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, Omar (Angie) Al-Saigh, Haddel (Cory) Micknicz, and Joseph (Bea) Al-Saigh; six great-grandchildren, Bradley Al-Saigh, Brandon (Laila) Micknicz, Heather Micknicz, Jaslyn Al-Saigh, Ramzey Al-Saigh, and Emma Al-Saigh all of San Antonio, TX.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2019 at Akers-James Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Justice, Rev. Mike Smith, and Pastor Keith McClung officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
