Robert Harold Bob Swan, 91, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Stonecreek Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Proctor, NC in Swain County, Mr. Swan had resided in Buncombe County for the past 59 years. He worked as a machinist, and retired from A-B Tech as the Department Chair of the Machine Shop. Mr. Swan was a member of Fruit of Labor Worship Center, and served as Machinist Mate Third Class in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific Theater.

Mr. Swan was the son of the late Joe and Hattie Cable Swan, and was also preceded in death by his twin sister, Helen Greene; and brothers: Ralph and James Swan.

Surviving are his wife, Claudette Stuart Swan; sons: Robert Harold Swan, Jr. and Stephen Mark Swan and wife Petra Rauber Swan; step-daughter, Gail Trantham and husband Terry; grandchildren: Timothy Swan and wife Stacy, Becky Swan Brown and husband Scott, Duane Swan, and Stephen Mark Swan, Jr.; step-grandchildren: Bryan Trantham and wife Alecia, and Kala Trantham; great-grandchildren: Erin and Sophie Brown, and Sierra and Surrena Swan; step-great-grandchild, Oakley Trantham; sisters: Ruby Scates and Willie Morgan and husband J.B.; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Terry Shimkus, who claimed Bob as Pops.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willie Warren and Rev. Norman Halford officiating. Burial will follow in McDowell Memorial Park in Marion, NC.
