Gail Arlene Merritt, 72, of Lignum died on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Novant Health UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center. She was born February 15, 1947 in Waverly, NY to the late Arthur Casterline, Jr. and Arlene Geiger Casterline.

Mrs. Merritt was a member of Gordonsville Presbyterian Church. She loved to knit, crochet and work on puzzle books. She was a great cook and loved to take care of other people. Above all, she loved and cherished her family.

She is survived by one son, John Burton (Tish); her twin brother, Dale Casterline; four additional siblings, Wayne Casterline, Art Casterline, Cathy Pratoivs, and Marsha Butler; three grandchildren, Candy Shelton, Michelle Fincham (Jason Rudd), and Jonathan Burton (Johnna); and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Daniel Merritt; one sister, Sharon Vandergif; and one stepbrother, David Burton.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Ron Young officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
