Services for Rueben Marshall Griffin Jr. 80 of Chapel Hill are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday August 1 2009 at Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral home Tyler with Pastor Kevin L. Prince officiating. Burial will be at Williams Cemetery in Chapel Hill. He passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday Morning July 30 2009 with his wife children grandchildren and great-grandchildren by his side.

He was born in Minden Texas on October 5 1928 to R.M. Griffin Sr. and Alice Parker Griffin.

He graduated from Minden High School in 1945. Following high school he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Houston Texas. Houston is also where he met and married Bernice Spears on July 22 1950.

Reuben had joined the Marine Corps Reserve and soon after marriage was called to duty. He served as an MP in Hawaii. They returned to Houston where their 4 children were born and then in 1961 moved their family to Chapel Hill. He worked for USI Film Products and then in 1975 went to work for Delta Drilling Company where he was Superintendent of the Etexas Producers Gas Plant in Chapel Hill. After retiring from Delta Drilling he and his brother Weldon worked together as self-employed Contract Pumpers. At home where he was affectionately referred to as Pop Pop by 10 grand children and 7 great-grand children he worked on his 60 acre farm. Building different trailers with his welding machine planting gardens tending livestock or just taking one of the kids for a ride on the tractor or bulldozer was his way of enjoying life. In retirement years he and Bernice traveled the country in their 5th wheel travel trailer. He lived for his family and they loved him dearly. During his sickness his motto was Take It One Day At A Time.

He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother a sister Dorothy McCauley and a brother Weldon Griffin.

He is survived by the love of his life for 59 years Bernice and their son and 3 daughters: David and Susan Griffin of Whitehouse Debbie Martin Genie and Roy Chapman and Donna and Keith Youngblood all of Chapel Hill. Grand children are Roger & Tami Chapman and their children Brooklea and Blayne Debbie Kay & Ken Melton and their children Dillon Andrew and Kenzie Deanna & John Kennon and their children Landon and Haley Jonathan Chapman Jared Youngblood and Cole Griffin all of Chapel Hill and Cameron Griffin Josh Youngblood Jeffrey & Candace Youngblood and Samuel Martin all of Tyler. He is also survived by 3 sisters who lovingly call him Junior: Evelyn Simonds Chapel Hill Wynell Webb Mount Enterprise and Gilbert Williamson Clayton. Pallbearers will be Roger Chapman Samuel Martin Jeffrey Youngblood Josh Youngblood Jonathan Chapman Jared Youngblood Cole Griffin and Kenneth Royer. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
