ABBEVILLE…Gene Audrey White, a resident of the Screamer Community, near Abbeville, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at his daughter’s home. He was 79.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Chester Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Joey Hudspeth and Pastor Jimmy Symons officiating. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in the Chester Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive extended family and friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday afternoon at the Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel.

Mr. White was born in Phenix City and was raised in Shorterville to the late R.J. White and Daisy Mae Culpepper White. He lived most of his adult life in the Screamer Community. He served his country for seventeen years in the Army National Guard. Earlier years of his life he worked for the Dixon Lumber Company and Champion International Lumber Company. He was retired from the Henry County Board of Education as a building maintenance employee. Gene also served as the pastor of the Good Tidings Assembly of God in Capp’s, Pleasant Hill in Headland, and Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist of Abbeville. He served on the Board of Directors of the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Eldridge, Alabama. Mr. White was a member of the Chester Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Leaving to cherish his memories is his wife of sixty-two years, Annette Hudspeth White; three daughters, Lisa McCarter, of Eufaula, Kathy White, and Teresa Ketchum (Randy), both of the Screamer Community; four grandchildren, Adam McCarter (Amber), Amber McCarter, Jacob Ketchum, and Anna Grace Ketchum; two great-grandchildren, Cameron McCarter and Dakota LeCroy; a brother, Wesley White, Defuniak Springs, Florida; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Sanderson (Sandy) of Headland; two brothers-in-law, Billy John Hudspeth (Annice) of the Screamer Community and Joey Hudspeth (Lougenia) of Headland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins and a special canine friend “Jack”.
