She was born Nov. 9, 1952, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Donald C. and Ina (Foot) Phillips. Raised in Hartwick, she first attended the Hartwick Elementary School and later graduated from Cooperstown Central School with the Class of 1970.
Of the Baptist faith, she was a volunteer for CRAS. Marsha loved to travel, entertain, tend to her flowers, and was a collector of clowns. She was also an excellent cook and was employed at many restaurants in the Cooperstown area, most recently The Short Stop Restaurant.
Marsha is survived by her parents, Donald and Ina Phillips, of Hartwick; her sister, Donna Hotaling and husband Duane; her nephew, David Sellick and wife Katie, and their children, David and McKenna Sellick; and her stepniece, Christine Watson and husband Rodney, and their children, Brandon, Kaitlyn and Connor Watson. Marsha is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear and special friends and neighbors.
On Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, a large gathering of Marsha's family and friends assembled at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown for a funeral service and celebration of her life. Officiating was the Rev. Laverne H. Saxer, pastor of the Hartwick Christian Church, the Rev. Richard Stackhouse, pastor of the Hartwick United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Phillip Sell, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hartwick.
The service of committal and burial followed in Hartwick Cemetery. After the service at the cemetery, there was a time for refreshment and fellowship at the Hartwick Fire Company No. 1 firehouse.
Marsha's family suggests that those who wish to make a memorial donation in her memory to do so to a charity of their choice.
Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
