ALBERTA LUCILLE “LUCEY” BARKER, age 97 of Menominee, MI passed away on Thursday September 19, 2019 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Menominee. She was born Alberta Lucille on December 27, 1921 to the late John and Emily (Gagnon) Barstow of Menominee, MI.
She attended Washington Elementary School in Menominee. Her family moved to Fox Michigan in the late 1920’s where she attended the North Fox School and later the school near Deer Creek taught by her mother Emily Barstow. Lucey attended Stephenson High School and graduated in 1939. She attended the County Normal where she earned a teaching degree. She taught at Hayward Bay School for 2 years. She then worked at Signal Electric for 2 years and at the Boreal for 2 years.
Lucey married Bernard Barker on December 7, 1946 at her parents’ home in Fox, Michigan.
She enjoyed being a homemaker spending and time at their camp in Cedar River.
She belonged to the Women’s Club in Menominee and an artist group in the area. Lucey enjoyed painting and always enjoyed seeing the Bay of Green Bay. We enjoyed playing cards with her in the last few years. She was known to make a pretty good red jello.
Lucey further enjoyed Sunday dinners with her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Survivors include her 2 sons: John and Sam both of Menominee, MI.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband: Bernard; and sisters and brothers: John, Alice (Clarence) Anderson, Jane Barstow, Emily (Curtis) Folstad, Nelly (George) Bonville, Loren Barstow and Mary (Bud) Smith.
In keeping with Lucey’s wishes no services will be held. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Marinette.
