Gary Lee Robertson, age 67 of Marion, went to the loving arms of our Lord on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness.

He was born April 21, 1951 in Elwood, the son of Austin V. and Ruth M. (Adams) Robertson.

Gary was a 1969 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie high school. He served in the Indiana National Guard from 1971 to 1974. Gary most recently worked at Wendt and Sons in Wabash as a truck trailer and fork lift mechanic for nearly 12 years, and he retired in 2017. He formerly had worked for Seegers Automotive Supply in Elwood, Fout’s Tire, and was the co-owner and later sole owner of the Airport Shell Service Station located at highways 13 and 37 in Elwood. After the closing of the station in 1998, he went to work for Wickes Lumber as a truck and fork lift mechanic until the business closed. Gary enjoyed NHRA Drag Racing and NASCAR, which he was proud to have attended the first 20 Brickyard 400 races. He also liked fishing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, watching I.U. Basketball, and watching Tiger Woods and Phil Michelson on the golf tour. Gary listened to a variety of music from Iron Butterfly, the Doobie Brothers, Vince Gill, Clint Black, and Martina McBride. Most of all, even though he was not known as a “hovering” father - he loved his children very much.

Gary’s family includes his partner in life of 31 years, Cathy Hooper of Marion; 3 children, Anthony Robertson (husband William Fike) Noblesville, Austin Robertson of Elwood, and Kimberly Robertson-Bond of Frankton; 2 grandchildren, Blake Thomas of Frankton, and Kadin Kendrick of Frankton; sister, Pam Sanford of Elwood; brother, Larry Robertson of Warsaw; the children’s mother, Carol Crull Jones; 2 nephews, Nathan Cleaver of Colorado and Adam Elkins of Colorado; and his loving dog, “Abby”.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and 7 pet children, Baron, Greta, Chief, Bo, Fritz, Rusty, and Misty.

A funeral service celebrating Gary’s life will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Rodney Ellis of the First Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 6 pm on Monday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home. Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
