Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2019 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Lincoln Cemetery near Granger.
Larry was born January 28, 1947, the son of Jay and Mildred McKinney. He was raised in Adel, IA and graduated from Adel-DeSoto High School in 1965. After spending some time at Northwest Missouri State College,
Larry enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard in 1968.
He worked at Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA for 25 years before retiring to Las Vegas in 1993.
Larry always had his sense of humor and a story to tell. He was a proud father and grandfather, and loved making weekly calls to his grandchildren to get updates on their activities and sports. Larry also enjoyed a cold Diet Mt. Dew, horseracing, football, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Larry is survived by two daughters, Molly (Ralph) DiCesare of St. Marys, IA and Kristin (Joel) Parker of Johnston, IA; six grandchildren, Kailyn, Dominick, Ava, Isabella, and Quinton DiCesare and Alyssa Parker; two sisters, Linda (Rod) Peel of Norwalk, IA and Debbie McKinney of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law, Marilyn McKinney of West Des Moines, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lyle McKinney; and niece, Trudy Peel.
Memorials can be directed to the family for a future designation.
