Shawn Garrett Miller, 44, of McVeytown, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019.
He was born Feb. 13, 1975, to Linda L. (Mumper) Miller Dickson and the late Clifford T. Miller. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Richard P. Dickson.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Xin (Zhang) Miller, whom he married May 20, 2014; and children, Damon Miller and wife, Kierna, Sara Oburn and husband, Brad, Kaden Miller, Garrett Miller and RuiJie Zhang. Shawn was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first grandchild, due in January 2020.
Also surviving are his siblings, Brad Dickson and wife, Melissa, of Yeagertown, Adam Dickson and wife, Diane, of Strodes Mills, and Wade Dickson and wife, Bethany, of McVeytown. Surviving grandmothers are Mary Mumper and Sara Dickson.
He always felt fortunate to have so many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins with his blended families of Mumpers, Millers and Dicksons.
Throughout his life, Shawn worked for Class 1 Transport, Hickory Forge, Marlette Homes, Standard Steel and he most recently fulfilled his lifelong dream job as a self-employed contractor. He was a hardworking man, who also enjoyed cookouts, family gatherings and cooking on the grill. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, 6712 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, with Pastors Craig and Kate Gandy officiating.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, at the church.
